The Young and Liberal

Younger people tended to gravitate toward liberal news outlets such as The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and the New York Times.  43% of The Colbert Reports’ audience is between 18 and 29 years old.  On the other end of the spectrum, you have The O’Reilly Factor, a mostly conservative news program.  40% of The O’Reilly Factor’s audience is 65 years of age or older.

Educated Readers

Gender and education level were also big indicators of where individuals got their news from.  While men overwhelmingly consulted sources such as the Wall Street Journal and the Economist, women tended to consult daytime talk shows and local TV networks.  The New Yorker was popular among the highly educated (64% of readers had 4-year college degrees or higher), whereas only 23% of Fox News’ audience had a college-level education.
